Whether supported through an outright or planned gift, all Red Cross programs are made possible through the generosity and commitment of people like you. A planned gift to your local American Red Cross chapter helps ensure the future of the services and programs we provide in Eastern Iowa. In addition, a planned gift can help you further your financial goals

The Legacy Society recognizes your remembrance of the Red Cross in your estate plan. Members of the Society who choose to make us aware of their gift are recognized at an annual reception. If you have remembered the American Red Cross in your estate plan, please call Steve Campbell, Gift Planning Officer, toll-free at (866) 867-5156, so that we can appropriately recognize your generosity.

What are planned gifts? Planned Gifts include gifts through your will, charitable gift annuities, life insurance, pooled income funds, real estate and charitable trusts.

Bequest
Many of our supporters make charitable gifts by naming the Red Cross as a beneficiary in their will. To make a gift by will to the American Red Cross Grant Wood Area Chapter or Hawkeye Chapter, the following language may be helpful to your lawyer:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the American Red Cross for the benefit of the Hawkeye Chapter (or Grant Wood Area Chapter) (the sum of $_______), or (______percent or fraction of my estate)."

Gift of Life Insurance
A supporter may name the American Red Cross Hawkeye Chapter or Grant Wood Area Chapter as a beneficiary, co-beneficiary, or contingent beneficiary of an existing policy. A supporter may give a paid-up policy to their local American Red Cross chapter, or purchase a policy and irrevocably name their local American Red Cross chapter as owner and beneficiary.

Gift of Real Estate
A donor may make an outright gift of a personal residence, ranch, or farm to the American Red Cross, or may reserve the right to live in the house or continue to farm the property for as long as the donor and/or named beneficiary lives

Life Income Gifts
You irrevocably transfer some assets to the Red Cross now, and in return, you (and a survivor if you wish) receive income for life. Life Income gifts include Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, and Pooled Income Funds, which are described below

Charitable Gift Annuity
In exchange for your gift of cash or marketable securities to the American Red Cross, we pay you (and a survivor or other beneficiary, if desired) a fixed amount annually for life.

Charitable Remainder Trust
A donor may create a life-income trust, which provides the donor (and another beneficiary, if you wish) with either fixed income through a Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust or a variable income through a Charitable Remainder Unitrust.

Pooled Income Fund
Your gift of money, marketable securities, or both is invested together with similar gifts from other supporters. Each year you receive your share of the fund’s earnings.

For more information or assistance in making a gift, please contact Steve Campbell, Gift Planning Officer, toll-free at (866) 867-5156.
